Thank you for taking the time to visit the webpage of the Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) under the Directorate of Academic Affairs, University of Cape Coast. We are devoted to excellence for coordinating experiential learning (Internship/Externship) and career advice needs to develop our students to make a difference globally.
ILO is not only focused on getting students to job roles and experiences but also focused on positioning students to understand how to use those experiences (assets) to efficiently launch their careers. As part of the ILO's area of focus, our team of dedicated staff are ready to assist students in shaping their career paths. Thus, there is a sense of collaboration and an environment that emphasizes learning and the development of confidence and skills in areas of concentrated interest and general areas of interest.

Our Setting
The Industrial Liaison Office is a section under the Directorate of Academic Affairs established in January 2022 to coordinate all existing internship programmes and expand the field experience to cover every student of the University. The office also offers career advice services (career mentoring and coaching, externship, internship tours, job fairs, career seminars, and workshops) to students.
Mission
The aim of the Industrial Liaison Office is to give every student the opportunity to partake in experiential learning. This gives students an opportunity to discuss their goals, and expectations and to design and redesign their job duties to ensure a holistic experience. The ILO ensures that skills acquired at the end of the internship programme give interns an advantage with respect to the world of work. The design of the internship programme does not only guarantee a comprehensive combination of job roles but answers the question “what is next after the internship?”
Guiding Principles
The ILO is guided by the principle of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) contextualised to suit its mandate. The guiding principle falls in line with the philosophy of the Directorate and the mission of the University.
Area of Focus
The cornerstone of the ILO is its student-centered approach to internship. The ILO supports students to design unique learning contracts (goals and objectives) for their internship experience. The ILO makes available supervisors, career coaches and mentors to harness the intern’s potential.

Collaborations
The Industrial Liaison Office collaborates with Colleges, Schools/Faculties, Academic Departments and industry to monitor and evaluate all internship and career advice programmes. The ILO provides a platform for research to meet industry demands, industrial seminars, job trade fairs, industrial visits, and database services to complement tracer studies efforts by sister agencies.
Activities and Responsibilities
The Industrial Liaison Office has firmly established four assiduous units that have propelled the office to carry out its mandate, which is to give every student the opportunity to partake in experiential learning. These units are Administration, Outreach, Career Advice and Research. Each of these units has its distinctive responsibilities, but they also work together to ensure that the ILO can carry out its operations. Some of the responsibilities of the various units include:
- Responsible for the day-to-day running of the office which includes, official correspondence and documentation, fleet management, etc.
- Facilitates the admissions process of students that are willing to partake in the internship programme by providing students with essential application information and dealing with application inquiries to assist students in making appropriate choices.
- Locate and liaise with potential/existing industries to establish suitable internship placement opportunities.
- Undertake regular monitoring and evaluation of students’ progress to ensure that the provisions in the learning contract are achieved.
- Responsible for searching for suitable career coaches and mentors for students.
- Ensure that a good relationship is established between the University and industry players.
- Responsible for events management such as workshops, seminars, internship and externship tours
